Careers event takes Wye Valley Group back to school

Employment pathways showcased to local youngsters…

WYE Valley Group, along with Hereford and Worcester Construction Training Group, showcased its impressive suite of development pathways at Bishop of Hereford’s Bluecoat School on Thursday evening.

No less than 700 year-10 and 11 pupils from Bishop’s and neighbouring St Mary’s HC High School were invited, along with their parents, to a Careers Evening at the Comprehensive.

Over 25 local companies and public service providers – including the Army, Police National Health Service – plus higher and further education establishments, offered careers advice to youngsters aged between 14 and 16.

“It was a well-attended, enjoyable and valuable evening, meeting local youngsters and their parents,” said Group Quality Manager Gavin Pettigrew.

“We understand the hugely difficult choices they will face in the next few years will impact not only them, but perhaps this community in the future.

“Over 99 percent of the waste that comes into our facility at Rotherwas is recycled, and it is of particular importance to get this message across to the younger generation, because it is their future we are impacting.

“We were on-hand to let them know about the many career pathways the industry offers and as we continue to build for a sustainable world, we look forward to targeting and supporting young people into future pathways to employment with the Wye Valley Group and our partners.”
