Solar panelling hailed as ‘huge step’ towards net zero
Self-sufficiency moves a step nearer for Wye Valley Group
WYE VALLEY Group’s commitment to sustainability continues to shine, with a state-of-the-art 150kWp solar panelling system installed on the roof of the main waste shed at the Eastside Recycling Facility.
The Solar Photovoltaic (PV) roof-mounted electricity generating system will add to the company’s existing 1 Megawatt of solar capacity, further strengthening its renewable energy credentials. Expected generation is around 125,000 kWh per year, and projections indicate that by July 2026, the site could be close to operating off-grid – with some hours of complete self-sufficient.
The exciting announcement was made by Strategic Business Development Chief Jason Howell.
He said: “This is a huge step forward towards our net zero targets.”

Jason has been the driving force behind the project and successfully secured County Council grant funding to part-finance the top-quality REC system, which comes with 25-year product and linear output warranties.
The installation, carried out by Solarkinetics Ltd, took just a few weeks to complete and shortly after installation produced 130.3kW on Sunday, November 30, alone.
Jason added: “This decision is both financial and strategic – it makes us more self-reliant and resilient against global instability, while helping to create a better world.”
